This election cycle, we have 12 state initiatives. Here's what our family is voting for:
*** CALIFORNIA STATE PROPOSITIONS ***
Prop 1A - Safe, reliable, high speed passenger train - YES
A high speed train between SoCal, Sacramento, and the SF Bay? Cool.
Prop 2 - Standards for confining farm animals - YES
A lot of pro-business conservatives don't like this measure because it forces new rules on meat farmers, which will raise food prices. But you know what? Even though I am fine with eating animals, I am NOT fine with inhumane treatment of them. It really upsets me that there is cruel treatment involved in creating meat for our meals. They deserve to have room to move around and enjoy the life they have till their last day. Humane treatment of animals is worth it, for our own humanity, and our health.
Prop 3 - Children's hospital bond - YES
How can you say no to childrens' hospitals?
Prop 4 - Waiting period and parental notification before termination of minor's pregnancy - YES
Absolutely. You need parental permission for an aspirin, you should have it for something as risky and significant as abortion. Sure, there are bad parents who might force a child one way or the other. But there are many more parents who can help their children make informed decisions instead of allowing them to be manipulated by our debased, moral-less, anything-goes culture. Post abortion syndrome is real.
Prop 5 - Nonviolent drug offenses, sentencing, parole and rehabilitation - NO
This one was tougher - do we keep our prisons less populated by PROHIBITING judges from giving jail time to simple drug offenders, those who break drug treatment rules, and simple parole violations? This is the opposite of mandatory minimum sentences. While I am against judges who let off serious offenders with a slap, I am also against not letting judges do their job of judging.
Prop 6 - Police and law enforcement funding, criminal penalties and laws - YES
I support law enforcement, and it looks like they are making 30 revisions to the law, hopefully improvements.
Prop 7 - Renewable energy generation - NO
While I am all for government incentives for commendable efforts, I am NOT for timelined quotas, in general. Requiring government-owned utilities to generate 20% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010 sounds OK to me, but to then raise the requirement for ALL utilities (government and private) to 40% by 2020 is too demanding. And check out this caveat on the cost:
Unknown impact on state and local government costs and revenues due to the measure's uncertain impact on retail electricity rates
Prop 8 - Protect Traditional Marraige; Eliminates right of same-sex couples to marry (constitutional amendment) - YES
I object to even the naming of this prop, using words like "eliminates", "right" and "to marry," since they have the right to marry, just not to have gay marriage recognized by the state. They have the right to marry someone of the other sex. And it's not eliminating, becuase there is no law in the consitution giving them special rights. This proposition is just reaffirming the existing boundaries of marriage. Click here for more
The state should remain NEUTRAL, not criminalizing homosexuality, nor condoning it. This prop should not only pass, but I'm for a Federal Marriage Amendment to ensure that our kids aren't indoctrinated into thinking that homosexuality is healthy and normal. California and its youth have gone homosexual crazy, like it is a new fad. It ruins societies and causes so many problems (and not just in the area of freedom of belief and freedom of speech for those who oppose such lifestyles). Most young adults 18-20 dont really know what all this entails they just run out and vote for "do as you please" society without understanding the devestating consequences this brings on Californians and the rest of America.
Prop 9 - Criminal Justice System victims' rights - YES
Requires notification to victim and opportunity for input during phases of criminal justice process, including bail, pleas, sentencing, and parole. Yep.
Prop 10 - Alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy - YES
Hey, I am all for incentives when it comes to socially engineering good things like home ownership and ownership of cleaner energy. I think there should be more and in the future they will come up with ways to improve our vehicles to a safe alternative that doesnt require batteries or gas or anything else that may cause cancer and disease from overexposure.
Prop 11 - Redistricting (constitutional amendment) - YES
Will this fix the problem of gerrymandering? Probably not.
Prop 12 - Veterans' bond act - YES
The Armed Forces Members served America, and can help them with this proposition for their homes and farms.
